Is it safe to burn corn cobs in a fireplace insert?

Just concerned about any byproducts that may stick to the flue of the chimney and cause a buildup.

1. Yes it's safe, in fact there is a product made of cobs to burn for heating
2. It is safe to burn them but they must be dry enough to crumble in your hands. If they are moist at all they will burn smokey and create a sticky buildup in the chimney.
